Ethnic conflicts in Africa are often portrayed as having ages-old origins with little prospects for resolution. This Security Brief challenges that notion arguing that a re-diagnosis of the underlying drivers to ethnic violence can lead to more effective and sustainable responses.
Program
This program examines the causes and motivations of pre- and post-election violence; successful cases of preventing electoral violence in Africa; and the role of security services, the international community, community leaders and institutions, and other key stakeholders in elections.
