Dear Africa Center alumni,
As a busy summer comes to a close, including 6 weeks of FIFA World Cup mania all across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, we have lots to share with you for this latest installment of the ACSS alumni newsletter.
Our feature article this time focuses on our alumni symposium in Abidjan in May that brought together alumni chapters and individual alumni from 9 countries in West Africa to review the progress of counterterrorism strategy implementation in the region. You’ll also have a chance to catch up on activities organized by vibrant alumni chapters in Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Ghana.
In June, we were pleased to welcome our newest group of emerging security sector leaders to campus for a completely revamped ESSL course that continued to assess the range of security challenges in Africa but added a new component focused on strategy development and strategic logic. In addition to the usual networking opportunities, participants from 24 countries acquired practical skills with hands-on opportunities to apply strategic logic to their own contexts during and following the course. We are looking forward to an online reunion with them next month.
As always, if you would like your writing to be featured in our next newsletter, please submit a ~1500-word essay on one of our upcoming topics and your essay may be selected as the central piece. We also welcome and congratulate news of your publications in other venues, as you’ll see in the updates section.
Sincerely yours,
Amanda
