Dear Africa Center alumni,
It’s a pleasure to share updates with you from several academic programs that occurred over the very busy summer months.
Most recently, you may have noticed a U.S. government shutdown or furlough for a six-week period in which many functions stopped, including those of the Africa Center, due to a lapse in appropriated funding. Those who are familiar with U.S. government operations may know that this situation occurs occasionally when policy or fiscal disagreements prove insurmountable and a budget is not agreed upon before a new fiscal year begins. A number of famous politicians have noted the messiness of democracy and I would certainly have to agree. In any event, we are pleased to be back at work! For those who subscribe to the Africa Center’s Daily Media Review, you will see that we have also resumed sending it out now that all staff are back in the office.
We are planning a full schedule of virtual and in-person programs, as well as a robust pace of research publications in the coming months. Please let us know if there are topics we are missing that you would like us to tackle or if you have case studies to contribute or bring to our attention as we continue to elevate success stories and share lessons learned.
Sincerely yours,
Amanda
