In fragile and conflict-affected states (FCS), particularly in Africa, climate shocks exacerbate vulnerabilities, amplifying their detriment to human security. As a result, climate shocks not only hurt FCS economies but also delay growth and economic development, particularly where there is a heavy dependence on climate-dependent sectors (e.g., agriculture), precarious urban infrastructure, and limited drinking water and sanitation. Immediate focus must be put on strengthening citizen-centric governance, social spending, climate-smart agriculture, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
