This online conversation will:

  • Examine African military and civilian perspectives on the role of gender in promoting security and peace on the continent;
  • Explore specific examples of successful inclusion of considerations of gender in recent African security situations;
  • As UN Security Council Resolution 1325 marks its 20th anniversary, analyze how the Women, Peace, and Security agenda is currently being implemented, and what aspects of the agenda remain difficult to realize in practice; and
  • Identify next steps for promoting gender mainstreaming in the security sector, as well as barriers to gender inclusive approaches.
