Disinformation and misinformation campaigns targeted at UN missions in CAR, Mali, and DRC have increased in frequency and scope, endangering contingents, and jeopardizing the missions’ ability to implement their mandates. While steps have been taken both in New York and in the field to mitigate these problems, these campaigns reflect the difficult geostrategic environment in which these missions operate and the need to develop a cross-cutting, strategic approach, focused not just on the UN or its actors but also involving stakeholders outside the mission and host countries.
