Research Assistant
Hany Wahila serves as a Research Assistant at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, focusing on elections, governance, conflict, and security specializing on the Horn of Africa and the African Union (AU).
Before joining the Africa Center, Ms. Wahila was a researcher at Amani Africa, where she collaborated closely with the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) to produce regular analyses of the AU’s engagement. She also worked at the Crisis Action – African Union Liaison Office, enhancing partnerships between the AU’s Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department, and civil society organizations on issues related to peace, security, and governance. Her experience includes working on the protection of civilians in armed conflict across various conflict portfolios, including Sudan, South Sudan, Mozambique, and Ethiopia, where she was the project co-leader.
Hany is a returned Peace Corps Volunteer and holds an MSc in International Relations (African Politics) from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London, as well as a bachelor’s degree in political science and public health from the University of Minnesota.
