On a rainy November (2023) evening in Windhoek, the Africa Center for Strategic Studies hosted an evening engagement at the Hilton Hotel to welcome nearly thirty guests: alumni (local and from across the continent), U.S. embassy officials, faculty, and support staff of the Southern Africa Parliamentarians’ Forum. After a warm and joyful welcome by Ms. Amanda Dory, Africa Center Director, and Ms. Luisa Chau, Africa Center Regional Engagement Manager, the guests enjoyed remarks by Dr. Catherine Kelly, Associate Dean and Faculty Lead of the Forum. Dr. Kelly summarized the findings from the weeklong forum and expanded guests’ understanding of the tools, techniques, and practices that African parliamentarians and security officials can use to enhance delivery of security to citizens. Lieutenant Colonel William Lange, Senior Defense Official/Defense Attaché at the U.S. embassy in Namibia, shared his appreciation for the event and emphasized the importance of security cooperation, partnership, and capacity building. After dinner, attendees were encouraged to take center stage and share thoughts on their experience with the Africa Center. Special appreciation to the guest of honor, Her Excellency Mrs. Boemo Sekgoma, Secretary General of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum, for attending with her team.
