On August 9th, 2024, the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, in partnership with the ACSS-Kenya Alumni Chapter, met for a topical luncheon to discuss issues affecting youth in Kenya. Attendees included 26 Africa Center alumni from Kenya as well as officials from the U.S. Embassy. The topic was of great relevance as news of youth-led protests in Kenya headlined world broadcasts. The luncheon began with a panel discussion moderated by Brigadier (Rtd) Joseph Mweu, the president of the Kenya Alumni Chapter. The experts featured on the panel were: General (Rtd) Njuki Mwaniki, Chairman of the Council of the National Youth Service; Dr. Joel Amegboh, Assistant Professor for African Security Studies at the Africa Center; and Ms. Caren Wakoli, Founder and Executive Director of the Emerging Leaders Foundation (ELF-Africa). After the expert remarks, the microphone was handed over to alumni attendees to share their comments and reflections. In addition to the topical discussion, the luncheon featured a presentation on the history of the Kenya alumni chapter by Brigadier Mweu and ample time for networking. Alumni attendees were delighted to reconnect with each other, with the Africa Center, and with Ms. Kate Almquist Knopf, the former Director of the Africa Center who attended the luncheon. The Africa Center thanks the Kenya alumni chapter, especially Brigadier Mweu and Major General William Shume, for their support and collaboration.
