The Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS) and the African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT/CAERT) will convene an academic webinar to take stock of lessons learned from two regional organizations—the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Southern African Development Community (SADC)—that are implementing strategies to counter violent extremism and terrorism. The webinar provides an opportunity to expand understanding about the opportunities and challenges in the development and implementation of regional strategies.
This online conversation will:
- Provide a greater understanding of the basic common principles and practices that have guided the development of ECOWAS and SADC’s strategies to counter violent extremism and terrorism.
- Generate insights on the key obstacles to implementation of regional strategies and how to overcome them.
