The Africa Center for Strategic Studies will convene a webinar on the workings and impact of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS), nearly two years after the killing of the group’s leader, Adnan Abu Walid al-Sahraoui. The webinar will explore the political, social and economic context that affect ISGS behavior and strategy vis a vis governments, other violent extremist groups, self-defense militias, criminal actors, and civilian population.

Webinar Objectives

  1. Participants will have a better understanding of the composition, motivations and objectives, as well as drivers and enabling factors of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS).
  2. Participants will have a fine-grained understanding of the political, social and economic context that affect ISGS behavior and strategy.
  3. Participants will gain better insights into the most relevant frameworks and approaches to understanding and diagnosing the key VE actors in their contexts.
