On July 18, 2024, the Africa Center for Strategic Studies (Africa Center) hosted a networking dinner in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on the margins of the “Countering Disinformation Workshop.” This event, facilitated by Regional Engagement Manager, Mr. Claude Toze, brought together 20 executive committee members from the Africa Center Côte d’Ivoire Alumni Chapter, alongside distinguished guests, including Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly, Africa Center faculty and staff, and representatives from the U.S. Embassy.
The evening provided a significant platform for alumni leaders to present their chapter’s strategic vision for the coming years. They highlighted recent accomplishments, such as the chapter’s symposium on countering violent extremism, which addressed key security challenges in the region. Discussions also focused on critical issues like emerging security threats, the impact of disinformation on governance and stability, and broader challenges facing the region. The chapter reaffirmed its commitment to advancing security and fostering resilience in Côte d’Ivoire and across Africa.
Minister Coulibaly praised the alumni chapter’s efforts, noting the importance of sustained collaboration to combat disinformation and promote good governance. He stressed that disinformation poses a growing threat to trust in institutions and emphasized the value of events like this in building strategic partnerships.
Throughout the evening, participants engaged in lively discussions with Africa Center personnel and other attendees, exploring opportunities for future collaboration. The exchanges reflected a shared commitment to addressing pressing challenges through dialogue and joint action. Representatives from the U.S. Embassy also underscored the importance of these efforts, commending the alumni chapter for its proactive stance on issues of regional security.
The gathering concluded with a mutual reaffirmation of the commitment to fostering enduring partnerships and tackling complex security issues through informed and collaborative approaches.
