On the margins of the workshop “Advancing Regional Cyber Security and Stability in Africa,” the Africa Center for Strategic Studies (Africa Center) convened a significant gathering of its Mauritius alumni.
The event brought together approximately 45 Africa Center alumni, including security sector professionals, political leaders, academics, civil society members, and other key opinion leaders in Mauritius. Representatives from the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), the U.S. Embassy, and alumni from other U.S. Professional Military Education institutions, including the National Defense University (NDU), were also in attendance. Alumni of sister Department of Defense regional centers—The Near East South Asia (NESA) Center, The Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS), and The George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies—also participated.
A primary goal of the gathering was to reinforce the relationship between Mauritius alumni and the Africa Center. The event began with welcoming remarks from Ambassador Henry Jardine, U.S. Ambassador to Mauritius and Seychelles. The Africa Center Acting Director, Mr. Daniel Hampton, then provided the Mauritius Africa Center alumni with updates on ongoing and future programs, emphasizing the center’s commitment to fostering enduring partnerships and advancing security in Africa. Dr. Nate Allen, an Africa Center Associate Professor, followed with a briefing on the contemporaneous cyber security workshop.
This gathering highlighted the vital role of alumni networks in enhancing regional security and strengthening the enduring partnerships between the Africa Center and its alumni.
