Lieutenant Colonel Dick Olum was promoted to the rank of full Colonel and appointed Commandant of the Junior Staff College. He previously served as Service Brigade Commander. Colonel Olum participated in the Next Generation of African Military Leaders course in January 2006.
Lieutenant Colonel Charles Bakahumura was promoted to the rank of full Colonel. He remains in the same position as Motorised Infantry Brigade Commander. Colonel Bakahumura participated in the Next Generation of African Military Leaders course in July 2007.
Lieutenant Colonel Michael Nyarwa was appointed Director of Training, Specialized Arms and Services for the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces. He previously served as Division Operations and Training Officer. Lieutenant Colonel Nyarwa recently completed the Next Generation of African Military Leaders course (January 2008).
Lieutenant Colonel Godfrey Golooba was promoted to the rank of full Colonel. He currently serves as the Commander of UGABAG II Somalia. Colonel Golooba participated in the Next Generation of African Military Leaders Course in July 2006.
In August, Mr. Richard Nabudere now serves as Team Leader Africa, SaferWorld Uganda. He previously served as a Coordinator for the Uganda Ministry of Internal Affairs. Mr. Nabudere served as Augmented Staff for the October 2004 seminar on “The Security Challenge of Small Arms and Light Weapons Proliferation in Africa” and, more recently, participated in the Small Arms and Light Weapons Workshop in August 2008.
In July, Mr. Stephen Karangizi has been appointed to a five-year term as Assistant Secretary General in charge of Programmes for the Common Market of Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) in Lusaka, Zambia. Mr. Karangizi previously served as COMESA’s Director for Legal and Institutional Affairs from 1998-2008. He participated in the Senior Leader Seminar in February 2004.
In March, Colonel Charles Angina was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and was appointed Chief of Staff, Land Forces for the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force. A longtime friend of the Africa Center and welcome participant at many Washington, DC-based events, Brigadier General Angina served as the Defence Attache for Uganda to the United States. He attended the very first Defense Attache Course in November 2005.
