Prior to the “jasmine revolution,” many factors indicated that Tunisia was approaching a crossroads. The constitution was to be amended to allow the president to continue in power, decision making became increasingly centralized, and promises of genuine political and economic reform went unfulfilled. Such sclerotic conditions left the country vulnerable to the sudden change it eventually experienced.
