“We need to increase this type of event where military and civilian leaders come together to discuss important issues,” Dr. Joseph Ntuda Ebode told an audience of more than 100 people. “We need more public debate and we need diverse participants,” he said. The audience was indeed diverse. It included nine Parliamentarians, military officers from the various armed services, regional officers attending the Cameroonian War College (from Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Madagascar, Mauritania, and Nigeria), civil society leaders and representatives, and two French officers assigned to the war college. Ebode is the president of the Africa Center Community Chapter in Cameroon. He is also the Dean of the University of Yaounde II. The event was an Africa Center Topical Outreach Program (TOPS) held Nov. 11 in Yaounde. The topics selected by the Chapter were “Developing a National Security Strategy,” “Piracy,” and “Highway Robbers.”
